The annual flower and design festival Temps de Flors Girona 2024 Unfortunately, we missed it in 2023, but this year we were happy to make up for lost time!
And although fewer and fewer designers participate in the festival from year to year, in fairness we note that in Girona there is still someone capable of flights of thought and creation of beauty. In addition, the ongoing drought in Catalonia has also contributed to both the content and design ideas of the flower arrangements.
However, talking a lot about the flower festival is the same as describing a dish of a great chef from a Michelin-starred restaurant; you have to see the first one, and taste the second one. Therefore, without further preamble, let’s look at the pictures:

The first photo shows the composition “Floral Notes” on the stone steps of the Girona Cathedral. New times, new challenges. The authors hope that you will fall in love with the world-famous staircase, decorated without the use of flowers or the need to use water to keep them alive.

Composition “Beware of snails!” in a pond in the park near the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants. Recently, an invasive form of snail was discovered in local waters, apparently from aquariums. The concerned public is sounding the alarm!

Part of the composition “Life”. According to the authors’ idea, we move between good and evil, defeating negative emotions, and, through knowledge, achieve mental freedom.

Composition “Spring, awakening of Tarla”. Tarla is a popular Girona character. According to legend, in the Middle Ages, a local outbreak of plague occurred in the area of silversmiths’ workshops. All residents of the area were placed in quarantine, gray everyday life dragged on for a long time, and only the acrobat Tarlá restored faith in life to the unfortunate residents, giving acrobatic performances right in the middle of the street.

Composition “Knit and give life.” A change of colors from the bitter cold of winter to the splash of color in spring. Such changes come from the hand of a grandmother who looks at the world with boundless patience and confidence that someday we too will learn to knit and create life from the diversity of flowers, plants and water, just as our Mother Earth did before so far.

Composition “Other tourist apartments” – the authors draw attention to the need to issue tourist licenses for a new type of apartment – for migratory birds. Nowadays they have become quite rare tourists, however, if we offer them hospitable homes, then perhaps they can even become permanent residents of Girona.

The flower arrangement in front of Girona City Hall pays tribute to the famous Catalan tradition of castellers. A large number of people are building a human pyramid of several floors (castell in Catalan). According to the authors, the Motherland is like a castle in which there are no irreplaceable people, and at the same time, everyone’s contribution is important to make this castle higher and stronger every day.

Composition “Water” on the St. Augustine Bridge. The description of the composition literally reads as follows: A bridge in the rain is like a dream in motion. Drops dance on the water, creating a hypnotic spectacle; the bridge becomes a magical place where the boundaries between the real and the imaginary are blurred. It’s as if heaven and earth are kissing through the water. Rain is a natural phenomenon that benefits all living things and its balance is essential to our well-being on the planet.

Composition on the stairs of the Church of St. Felix. A gigantic female figure, a skirt of flowers spread out along the steps of the stairs, a bouquet of bright flowers growing from her head. And we, the little inhabitants of Lilliput, look at her with admiration. It looks like she is offering us flowers with her left hand.
