Walk along the sea from S’Agaro to Sant Feliu de Guixols

We continue to explore one of the most remarkable and picturesque sights of Catalonia – hiking trails laid along the seashore, usually called “cami de ronda” in Catalan. Today we propose to to make a walk along the seashore from the San Pol beach in S’Agaro towards Sant Feliu de Guixols. This route is different from the previous walk along the La Gavina residencial complex in S’Agaro, today we have more descents and ascents, the path is not so even, sports shoes are recommended, as well as fresh water to replenish the acid-base balance, dedication and camera, because the views are absolutely stunning!

In the first photo – a view of the San Pol beach and the famous white building Casa Estrada with nine pointed blue turrets, also known as Xalet de les Punxes (chalet with sharp tips). Its construction was started in 1890 by order of the local businessman Pere Màrtir Estrada, the owner of the cork factory; construction was completed in 1931, it was the first residential building on the beach of San Paul, before there was only a small hut for storing fishing boats. The number of towers corresponded to the number of children in the Estrada family. Soon, the house turned into a kind of “icon” of the Costa Brava, being present in the most beautiful photographs of this picturesque corner of the Mediterranean coast. Unfortunately, this building is currently in poor condition – due to the high cost of this property (according to the mayor’s office of Sant Feliu de Guixols, the amount of the last purchase and sale transaction was about 6.5 million Euros), and also because that the house is included in the list of cultural heritage of local importance with all the ensuing aggravating circumstances in the form of an obligation to preserve the appearance of the building during repairs, the process of reconstruction of this house into a mini-hotel (the permission for which was issued by the mayor’s office in 2013) is actually frozen…
It remains only to hope for the advent of a philanthropist investor who will be ready to invest in the restoration of the building, relying only on the image component of the outcome…
