Rupit is an absolutely fantastic medieval catalan city, a must-see for the real tourist.
Not sure why, but Rupit gained the glory of the city of witches on most of internet web sites. In fact, according to the chronicles, in the Middle Ages, the witch hunters were not particularly zealous here, there were only three witches trials, while only in the nearest district area they got rid of 30 witches. On the other hand, perhaps it is for this reason that the witches in Rupit have survived and continue their experiences in witchcraft nowadays…
Walk along the suspension bridge (if you are not afraid), be sure to go down to the river and take a walk along its bed, walk along the stony streets of the city, go up to the hermitage of St. Magdalen, and if the witches are favorable to you – get tons of fun! And do not forget to buy a witch figure for good luck and for money in a gift shop!
Well, in order to further fuel up your interest in visiting this wonderful town, we invite you to take a small virtual tour with us!
A bird’s eye view of Rupit. The laziest of you, of course, may dare to enter Rupit along the road leading to the city, shown on the left in the photo.

But true adventurers, autentic tourists, will enter the city of witches along the traditional path leading through this suspended bridge.

In fact, crossing the river through the suspended bridge in Rupit is a real test. The fragile boards, weary of time, crackle underfoot treacherously, and the bridge swings menacingly. In addition to this, tourists who are stunned and impressed by what they saw, forget to read the ominous warning above the entrance to the bridge, which states that no more than 10 people can be on the bridge at the same time. If you really feel scared to cross the bridge – a small life hack from M2 Lux. On the side of the entrance to the bridge there are inconspicuous stone steps leading down. If you go down these steps, you can cross the river under the bridge along concrete slabs laid across the river.

The narrow streets of Rupit are saturated with the spirit of the Middle Ages. Rupit was first mentioned in historical chronicles in 955, it would seem, just yesterday. In the background above the houses rises the bell tower of the Church of St. Michael.

And here is the medieval church of Sant Miquel de Rupit, the construction of which began in the XIV century.

The main square of the city in front of the Rupit City Hall.

One of the most beautiful streets in the city, Carrer del Fossar. Most of the steps leading upwards are carved right into the rock.

It’s very difficult to resist, you want to photograph literally every centimeter of the city!
***
But you always need to remember that medieval Rupit is a city of witches, and danger lies in wait for you at every turn! Well, for example, for what can be used a gramophone standing in the twilight of a room next to a seemingly accidentally open window? I’m sure you guessed it! With the help of its magical sounds, witches capture pure and immaculate souls!

Of particular note is a walk along the Rupit River, which flows around the city. Over the right bank of the river a gigantic rock hangs almost horizontally. Walking under it you absolutely do not want to think about what would happen if this rock suddenly wants to obey the law of gravity. In some places the walls of the rock are charred; probably it is here that the evil spirits living in Rupit do their dark deeds, frying steaks from the flesh of lost tourists and drinking blood of innocent toddlers😁.

A walk along the riverbank resembles a journey through a mysterious fairy forest.

On the left side of the bridge, a winding path leads up to Rupit. The trail on the right side of the bridge will lead to the top of a rocky hill, where the hermitage of St. Magdalene is located.
***
The hermitage of St. Magdalene (Ermita de Santa Magdalena). Local bloggers wrote about this place since 1660.

A gorgeous panoramic view of the city opens from the hill on which the hermitage of St. Magdalene stands.

Time flies by, and dusk is gathering over the city. It’s time to get home, witches rule the streets in Rupit at night.
***
The last tourists left the city in a hurry. Now you can safely take pictures of the bridge without people😃. Above the entrance arch is that very announcement prohibiting rocking the bridge and gathering more than 10 people at once.
***
On the way from Rupit; the rays of the setting sun paint a touching picture of peacefully grazing cows, picking juicy grass in the fertile Pyrenees meadows.

And finally, a look at Rupit through the eyes of a witch flying on a broom😊:
